A wild-boar hunter mistakenly shot a fellow hunter twice in the abdomen in a forest in Totsukawa, Nara Prefecture, on Sunday, apparently mistaking him for a boar, police said.

Masami Miyamura, 64, was seriously wounded after Shozo Tsuji, 59, shot him at around 2 p.m., police said.

Miyamura and Tsuji, both forest workers, were hunting wild boars with three other people when the incident occurred, police said.

Miyamura was in a black outfit and walking on a hilly road when Tsuji fired the shots, police said, adding they are questioning Tsuji on suspicion of negligence resulting in injury.
