SAITAMA (Kyodo) A male and a female high school student jumped around noon Wednesday from the sixth floor of a hotel in Koshigaya, Saitama Prefecture, in an apparent suicide attempt, police said.
The girl, 15, was unconscious and listed in critical condition while the boy, 16, was listed in serious but stable condition, police said.
The girl, from Misato, Saitama Prefecture, and the boy, from Koshigaya, attend the same high school in Soka, Saitama Prefecture.
They apparently intended to commit suicide because their teachers and parents are opposed to their relationship, police said.
Neither student went to school Wednesday morning, police said, adding that the girl's parents had asked them to search for her, fearing she had run away from home.
