A city assembly committee in Tajimi, Gifu Prefecture, unanimously approved a bill Monday to allow the municipality to impose a tax on waste from Nagoya.

The proposal is expected to become the first ordinance that authorizes a city to tax on another. The law will likely be enacted Dec. 14 at the assembly’s plenary session, assembly members said.
