KOBE (Kyodo) An exhibition of artwork by children of Kobe Fire Department employees opened at the city's municipal office on Wednesday in support of the families of the New York firefighters lost in the Sept. 11 terror attacks on the World Trade Center, organizers said.

The organizers said 142 children aged 2 to 16 have contributed 157 pieces to the exhibition, which will run until Dec. 6. It will be later shown at various places in New York, including an elementary school.

The organizers also said they launched the exhibition as a way of showing their support for their U.S. counterparts. Many of the organizers either lost relatives or were affected by the Great Hanshin Earthquake in 1995, which resulted in the loss of over 6,000 lives.
