The leak in November of radioactive water at the Hamaoka Nuclear Power Station in Shizuoka Prefecture came from a 2-cm rupture in a welded part, according to the plant operator, Chubu Electric Power Co.

The Nagoya-based power company found the rupture in a tube connecting one of the 89 control-rod driving units to the bottom of the vessel, a Chubu Electric Power spokesman said.
