Security has been expanded to encompass 580 locations nationwide, including those affiliated with countries supporting the U.S.-led military action against targets in Afghanistan, the chairman of the National Public Safety Commission said Tuesday.

Locations where security is being provided include 59 British facilities, as well as 34 domestic research facilities, including nuclear power plants in 16 prefectures, Jin Murai told reporters.

According to Murai, the number of U.S. facilities where security is being tightened increased to 174, including 71 U.S. military bases and ammunition depots, and 91 U.S. firms and schools.
