A 41-year-old German has been arrested on suspicion of attempting to smuggle cannabis resin and opium into Japan from Thailand in mid-September, Narita airport police and customs officials said.

Authorities allege Nobert Linkowski tried to smuggle about 3.9 kg of cannabis resin and 850 grams of opium into Japan when he arrived at Narita airport Sept. 14 from Bangkok. The cannabis resin has a street value of 31 million yen, while the opium has a street value of 6.8 million yen, police said Tuesday.
