China has asked that two internationally acclaimed movies not be shown at a Japanese municipal film festival on the grounds that they are banned in China, Fukuoka city officials said Saturday.

But the city officials said they have told the Chinese authorities that the films — “Guizi Lei Le” (“Devils on the Doorsteps”), directed by Jiang Wen, and “Shiqi Sui De Dan Che” (“Beijing Bicycle”), by Wang Xiaoshuai — will be screened during the Sept. 15-24 festival as scheduled.
