Softbank Corp. has made digital subscriber line provider Nagoya Metallic Communications Corp. a subsidiary as part of its efforts to establish regional strongholds, Nagoya Metallic officials said Friday.

Softbank has acquired 52 percent of the outstanding shares in Nagoya Metallic, purchasing 7,000 new shares for 350 million yen, the officials said.

Nagoya Metallic, established in May last year, has 13,000 subscribers. The number of new subscribers has fallen sharply since Softbank's entry into the market, however.

Nagoya Metallic will specialize in services for small and medium-size companies.

Softbank has already made DSL providers Tokyo Metallic Communications Corp. and Osaka Metallic Communications Corp. its subsidiaries.

The Softbank group launched its asymmetrical digital subscriber line service for individuals last week.
