Four young children and one nursery school teacher were injured Tuesday when a station wagon smashed into a nursery school group on a sidewalk in the village of Takayama, Nagano Prefecture, police said.

Kikuno Nakazawa, 2, suffered a broken wrist in the accident, which happened at 10.15 a.m., police said. Three other children and nursery school teacher Yoshimi Tanaka, 23, suffered minor injuries, they said.

The station wagon, driven by Mitsui Yumoto, 57, first crashed into a small truck, but the force of the collision took the car into the right side of the road where the children and teacher were walking, police said.

Ten children and three teachers from Shotoku Nursery School were on a field trip when the incident happened, said police.
