Police arrested a 47-year-old architect from Yaizu, Shizuoka Prefecture, Wednesday night in connection with the apparent slaying of Mieko Kubo, 52, a Tokyo gallery owner whose dismembered body and body parts were found in a Shizuoka Prefecture harbor last month.

Kazutoshi Oishi, owner of an architecture firm in Yaizu, has been initially arrested on charges of dismembering and dumping a body, police said, adding that they are now interrogating him to determine if he murdered her.

Oishi has denied any wrongdoing, they said.

Kubo had not been seen since she left her Tokyo home by car on the night of Nov. 19 after telling her mother she was visiting Yaizu to sell paintings.
