The government's Tax Commission on Wednesday proposed reforms for fiscal 2001 that, among other things, seek to facilitate corporate realignment.
The panel also emphasized the need to review various tax relief measures taken in the past while giving "due consideration" to the fragile economy.
Hiromitsu Ishi, panel chairman and president of Hitotsubashi University, submitted the package to Prime Minister Yoshiro Mori in the afternoon.
