YOKOHAMA – A Kanagawa Prefectural Police sergeant who investigated thefts was arrested early Tuesday on suspicion of breaking into a house and stealing 700,000 yen worth of goods, including a pearl necklace, police said.
Takashi Niita, 46, who has been investigating thefts for 13 years, was arrested after he was found leaving the house of a female company worker in Chigasaki by her 25-year-old neighbor, a college student.
