An 18-year-old Pakistani student here will lodge an accusation with the Niigata Public Prosecutor's Office this week against a police officer alleged to have drunkenly attacked him in front of a train station here, a lawyer representing the youth said Sunday.

The policeman, 42-year-old assistant police inspector Tadanori Kazama, has already received administrative punishment.

The lawyer said at a news conference that the student will soon file a 10 million yen damages suit against Kazama, who is suspected of abusing his authority by bullying and injuring the boy.

According to investigators, Kazama was on his way home after drinking at about 10 p.m. on Oct. 27 when he approached the Pakistani student in front of JR Niigata Station and beat him about the face and body, inflicting injuries that would require 10 days of treatment.

Kazama reportedly has a different version of the incident that has not been released, police sources said.

Niigata prefectural police authorities suspended Kazama from work for one month and have sent papers about Kazama to the prosecutor's office.
