The Myanmar government told the International Labor Organization on Wednesday that it will allow its monitors to verify that Myanmar has ceased all forced labor practices, diplomats said.

The Myanmar military junta apparently made the promise as a last-minute effort to sway the ILO governing body, which was meeting in Geneva to consider sanctions against Myanmar.

The 56-member governing body, comprised of government, labor and employer representatives, is due to meet Thursday to decide whether the international body should go ahead with sanctions.

Participants held informal consultations in the two days before the official session on how to deal with the issue.
