The government said Tuesday it will extend until February the tour of duty of a Self-Defense Forces unit taking part in a U.N. peacekeeping mission in the Israeli-occupied Golan Heights, government officials said.
The unit, assigned to the U.N. Disengagement Observer Force until the end of August, will stay on until Feb. 28 in line with a six-month extension of UNDOF's activities through Nov. 30 that was approved by the U.N. Security Council at the end of May.
The SDF contingent, whose duties include transporting daily necessities for UNDOF personnel, is the ninth unit from Japan sent to support UNDOF.
