Honda Motor Co.'s spacious luxury wagon Avancier will debut Wednesday on the domestic market, the automaker announced Monday.

The Avancier, with either a 3,000cc or 2,300cc engine, will be priced between 2.235 million yen and 2.777 million yen.

"In Japan, a luxury car mainly means a sedan," Honda President Hiroyuki Yoshino said. "On the other hand, many drivers are attracted to the spaciousness of minivans. So we believe there are customers who want the spaciousness of a minivan and the luxury of a sedan."

Honda hopes to sell 3,000 units a month of the new car, which was developed exclusively for the domestic market, the automaker said.

Designed to be environmentally friendly, the Avancier complies with regulations on exhaust gas emissions to be introduced next year as well as the latest fuel-efficiency standards, the automaker said.

The new car also achieved a recycling rate of more than 90 percent, reflecting the efforts by automakers to promote the recycling of car parts and materials.

To improve safety, the automaker attached the so-called intelligent highway cruise control system option, which monitors the position of the preceding vehicle by using a laser radar and automatically controls the throttle and brakes, the automaker said.
