Potato chips might not ever be able to fully take the place of a night grilling up juicy meat, but the Yamayoshi snack companies’ limited-edition “salty green onion and beef tongue” flavor comes close.
Originally released for a short time last year — minus the “veggies” — the company has “powered up” the flavor in the 2015 version, which is also a convenience store exclusive (¥160).
The green onion doesn’t come through, which isn’t a bad thing, and overall these chips provide a balanced spicy and smoky beef flavor. If yakiniku (grilled meat) isn’t an option and you still need a BBQ fix, these chips are up to the task.
