Famed patissier to visit the Cerulean

From July 11-31, the Cerulean Tower Tokyu Hotel in the Shibuya area of Tokyo will hold a special Laurent Jeannin Promotion featuring special lunch and dinner courses at the restaurant Coucagno on the hotel’s 40th floor.

Jeannin is one of the most distinctive chef patissiers in France and works at the Hotel Le Bristol Paris. He won the Patissier of the Year award in 2011. He has agreed on a technical tieup with the Cerulean Tower Tokyo Hotel and every time he visits Japan, he introduces his new pastries from Paris to Tokyo.

Jeannin always tries to surprise people with his sweet creations, not only through flavors but also particular textures and appearances.

The lunch course will be available from 11:30 a.m.-3 p.m. from ¥6,500 per person, and the dinner course will be available from 5:30-10:30 p.m. at ¥15,000 per person. The courses feature Jeannin’s special sweets and the other dishes are prepared by the hotel’s executive chef Nobuhiko Fukuda. Prices include tax and a service charge.

From July 11-13, Jeannin will be on the premises in the kitchen and will stop by each table to greet diners.

Specialty grill opens in Roppongi

On June 11, a new grill restaurant called LB6 opened in the Roppongi area of Tokyo.

LB6 intends to offer handmade dishes while being particular about ingredients. To creating such cuisine at reasonable prices, the restaurant purchases directly from contracted farms and fishing ports.

At its open kitchen, select beef, pork and fish are cooked in front of customers on a charcoal grill or in an oven made of Nanbu cast iron.

Various appetizers are also offered, such as bagna cauda, assorted ham, marinated olives with semi-dried tomatoes and seasonal shellfish steamed in wine.

In addition, the restaurant offers various wines selected by Master of Wine Ned Goodwin, the wine director of the restaurant. Select wines are offered by the glass as well as in a decanter.

The restaurant opens daily from 5 p.m. to 3 a.m.

Molecular cuisine paired with wine

On July 26 and 27, the Conrad Tokyo in the Shiodome area will hold a special dinner event called Molecular Journey at the hotel’s bar and lounge, Twenty Eight.

For the event, two renowned chefs — Jose Sanchez, the executive chef of the hotel, and Chikara Yamada, chef and owner of his restaurant Yamada Chikara in Minami-Azabu — are collaborating to offer a special course.

Mixing each other’s considerable experiences and knowledge, the course is made according to common points such as “molecular”, “Japan”, “modern” and “high-end” as themes, allowing guests to experience a new world of dining.

With the 12 dishes, guests can enjoy seven kinds of wine selected from the restaurant’s wine cellar, which contains more than 2,500 bottles of wine.

The event will be held at two periods per day, from 5:30-8 p.m. and 8:15-10:45 p.m. It is available at ¥77,000 for two persons with the wine pairings and a bottle of Champagne as a souvenir. For the course only, the price is ¥27,000 per person.

Reservations are required and the prices include tax and a service charge.
