The Hilton Tokyo and the Embassy of Colombia will jointly host the Colombian Gastronomic Journey, a special gourmet promotion taking place at the hotel’s buffet restaurant, Checkers, from Aug. 4 to 8.
Guests will have the opportunity to feast on a wide range of authentic Colombian dishes for lunch or dinner at the buffet. On Saturday and Sunday nights, live vallenato guitar performances add a romantic touch.
Among some 40 dishes for lunch and 50 for dinner, all specially prepared by guest chefs Carlos Torres and Martha Mora Delgado from Colombia, are ajiaco (a Colombian soup of chicken and potatoes) — the local dish of the capital Bogota; lomitos al cafe (coffee braised veal); and bandeja paisa (a combination of pork, beans and rice accompanied by sweet fried plantains and corn bread). For dessert, an array of Colombian sweets featuring various tropical fruits will be available, along with organic Colombian coffee.
The lunch buffet is served between 11:30 a.m. and 3 p.m. (from 11 a.m. on Saturdays and Sundays) and costs ¥3,500 per person (¥2,000 per child). The dinner buffet is held from 5:30 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. (last order 9:30 p.m.) and costs ¥6,000 per person (¥3,000 per child).

One-coin deals over Shinjuku
The Keio Plaza Hotel Tokyo’s Sky Bar Little Bear is running a Sky Beer Hall promotion.
Beer, wine, sake and other drinks — along with a range of food items — are all ¥500. The annual summer promotion is popular for its reasonable prices and the superb night view from the 45th floor of the hotel, attracting office workers from the Shinjuku area.
Guests are asked to buy ¥500 vouchers to use for drinks or food. Some items require two or more tickets. Other than single ticket sales, a set of 11 tickets are sold for the price of 10 (¥5,000).
Table magic shows will be staged on Wednesdays and Thursdays. On Mondays, groups of more than two females with a reservation will receive the hotel’s original ice cream for free. From Saturday through Tuesday, reservations made through the hotel’s Web site entitle each party to mixed nuts or dry fruit for free.
The promotion runs through Sept. 30, between 5 p.m. and 10:30 p.m. on weekdays and Saturdays, and from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. on Sundays and national holidays (last orders are 30 minutes prior to closing time).

High-quality beef kaiseki
Kobe Beef Kaiseki 511 has just opened in Tokyo’s Akasaka district. The restaurant features one of the most acclaimed brands of top-quality Japanese beef. The restaurant gets its name from its policy of only using Kobe Beef of the highest rank, A5, and a beef marbling standard (BMS) of 11.
The creator of the menu is Hideichi Katagiri, the owner-chef of Kyoto’s renowned Japanese beef restaurant Isshin. His unique beef dishes are served as kaiseki (Japanese full-course style), using not only the popular sirloin and tenderloin cuts but also some rarely available parts. To accompany the dishes, an extensive wine list is selected by Kenichi Saito, the sommelier known for supervising the wine manga “Kami no Shizuku.”
Kaiseki course menus are from ¥13,000. There are also lunch sets from ¥1,500 and a la carte dinners are from ¥800. A 5 percent service charge applies for dinner. The restaurant is open from 11:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. for lunch (starting from July 20) and from 5:30 p.m. to 12 a.m. (last orders are at 11 p.m.) for dinner.
