People from all around the world flock to Tokyo looking for excitement. As a result, Tokyo is home to many ethnicities and walks of life. Celebrate that diversity on April 20 at the International School of the Sacred Heart's Family Festival.
This is the school's 34th festival and attendees can expect much of what has made the event a success in previous years. There will be various types of food, performances and games that will aim to provide an authentic taste of each of the represented cultures.
"Our diverse community is a source of strength and pride for our community," says Mika Barker of the school's parent association, who organizes the event. "This year we have foods from 22 countries and performers spanning traditional Japan to the captivating hula of Hawaii".
If that wasn't enough, the festival will also feature carnival games, vendors and raffles for prizes. Additionally, there will be live entertainment throughout.
A portion of the proceeds from the festival will be used for educational programs at ISSH. Additionally, some of the proceeds will be donated to several charities in Japan and other countries, all of which relate to the education and health care of underprivileged children.
This year, the festival's theme is "Spring," which will be illustrated by fresh yellow, orange and green shades, and large fabric flowers. As is true with this season, the event hopes to delight the whole family — rain or shine.
"Spring is a time of renewal and symbolizes the opportunities we all have for growth and change," Barker says.
The International School of the Sacred Heart's Family Festival will be held April 20 at the school, which is located at 4-3-1 Hiroo in Shibuya-ku, Tokyo. Admission is free. For more information, visit www.issh.ac.jp.
