The Kansai region of Japan is filled with unique culture, and the Organization of Kansai Unity hopes to share it with children and families this summer.
The Kansai Cultural Workshop Festival is a campaign that introduces Kansai culture to people of all ages and provides opportunities to understand different facets of life in the west of Japan. A wide range of subjects includes pop culture such as manga and modern dance as well as classical performing arts such as noh and traditional Japanese music.
The festival will be held from July 17 until Aug. 31 to coincide with summer holidays.
More than 300 workshops will take place across the Kansai region, and from Aug. 7 to 9, 250 cultural workshops will be put on in the Shijo-Kawaramachi area of Kyoto. This mega-grouping is called 250 Doors, and is part of the biggest workshop in Japan, the International Workshop Festival 2010.
So if you're wondering what to do with the kids this summer, this could be a chance to learn more about Japanese culture and make new friends in the process.
