Parents looking to get their kids hooked on reading could benefit from an upcoming picture book event in Nagano.

The Picturebook Museum in Karuizawa, Nagano Prefecture, is holding an exhibit of famous Japanese children's book artist Etsuko Kibai, which spans 15 years of her work. The first floor of the museum archives some of the oldest Western picture books ever written. There is also a picture-book library that includes all sorts of Japanese picture books as well as books that were written overseas. The museum, which is located across the street from the Karuizawa Erz Toy Museum, also has a Japanese-style tea room for parents looking for a place to take a break.

The exhibit runs till June 14. For more information, call (0267) 48-3340 or visit www.museen.org/ehon/index2.html
