If a foreigner is not going to live here until retirement, they are not going to get the benefits they put in. It should be optional with a short term and a long term plan.

Of course they shouldn't because probably none of them will be living in Japan past the benefit age of 60, so it's not fair to ask them to pay for it.

Absolutely. It's the price for the privilege of working here. Like paying school tax, it's for the benefit of the community, whether you benefit directly or not.

I don't pay into it, but I want to. I would be paying if I was at home. I'm a bit worried because if I stay in Japan a long time, I won't be covered.

Private pension insurance is an option. Foreigners should pay, but countries should make sure payees can access the pension of the country to which they relocate.
