The Murdoch family reached a settlement on Monday that put an end to a lengthy and messy battle for control of News Corp. and Fox Corp., leaving eldest son Lachlan Murdoch as the undisputed leader of the sprawling enterprise.

Lachlan Murdoch, 54, has already been overseeing the business for years and is unlikely to change the conservative political bent of the organizations, which was was of utmost importance to his father — media mogul Rupert Murdoch — who saw it as the signature driver of the companies’ fortunes.
