The government will invite Iraqi diplomats, athletes and television crews to Japan later this month to give them training, according to the Foreign Ministry.
Nineteen junior Iraqi diplomats will study a wide range of matters related to international affairs and Japanese policies from Sunday to Oct. 14 in a program under the auspices of the Japan International Cooperation Agency, officials at the ministry said.
Eleven staff members from the Muthanna TV Broadcasting Station, a public broadcaster in the southern Iraqi province of Al-Muthanna, will arrive in Japan on Monday to study professional techniques in a program running through Oct. 8.
Japan has sought to develop closer ties with the province because it has deployed several hundred Ground Self-Defense Force troops there for humanitarian reconstruction work.
An Iraqi sports delegation including two judoka and three track and field athletes will arrive for training Wednesday.
The five athletes will perform in the Arab Games in Algeria in late September after completing the training program in Japan, which runs through Sept. 15.
