Financial Services Minister Heizo Takenaka will leave for Malaysia this weekend to attend an economic conference of government officials and corporate executives from East Asian nations, the Cabinet Office said Friday.

Takenaka, who also serves as minister in charge of economic and fiscal policy, will brief participants Sunday on the current situation of the Japanese economy and Tokyo’s economic and fiscal policy, the office said.

Takenaka, who launched a task force Thursday to devise measures to accelerate banks’ disposal of nonperforming loans, is expected to touch on the loan issue in his speech.
