Japan’s top female marathoner, Naoko Takahashi, has been chosen to receive this year’s Best Performer Award, a nonprofit organization said.
In a presentation ceremony Saturday in Tokyo, a proxy for the Olympic gold medalist received the commendation of Japan Performance Research Institute, which marked its 10th anniversary this year.
Takahashi was not available because she was participating in the Berlin Marathon on Sunday.
The award is conferred every year on a person who has achieved distinguished performances in various facets of society.
Former recipients include world-renowned movie director Nagisa Oshima, and Masayoshi Son, president of Softbank Corp., Japan’s largest Internet investor.
