Former national soccer team player Daisuke Oku has been arrested for allegedly making threats over the telephone.

Oku, a midfielder who played in 26 matches for the national team and scored twice, allegedly called his wife, actress Hinako Saeki, on Tuesday and said, "I'm going to come and kill you."

Later in the day, Saeki reported the incident to the police in Yokohama and filed a complaint. Oku was arrested Thursday in his hometown of Amagasaki, Hyogo Prefecture.

Oku, 37, played 280 matches in the J.League's first division, mostly with Jubilo Iwata and Yokohama F Marinos, and scored 62 goals. He retired in 2008.

He and Saeki were married in 2002. Oku had been a director of development and a technical advisor with second division team Yokohama FC, but he left the club in January due to poor health.
