Pineapple potato chips push flavor envelope
A few years back, Japanese snack maker Koikeya released a series of fruit-flavored chips. They were billed as a "breakfast snack," but mostly got attention for their novelty blend of potato and peach. It was interesting but made for a weird flavor combination. Was that the end of fruit-flavored crisps? Of course not.

Calbee goes for a home run with Koshien-themed potato chips
The Olympics aren't the only sports competition going on just now, the extremely popular Summer Koshien high school baseball tournament is also happening. To celebrate it, snack maker Calbee has rolled out a limited-edition "Koshien Curry" flavor of potato chips. Based off the most famous concession available at the Osaka-based stadium since 1942, these chips (¥214) feature a distinct Japanese-style curry taste, but with a good amount of spice added in. Some people's first choice for a bite in summer probably won't be spicy chips. But for those who crave a little bit of oomph in their summer snack options — or want to pretend they are taking in a game at the Koshien — this one is a home run.
