Sanfrecce Hiroshima scored twice in the second half to make a winning start to the eastern league phase of the Asian Champions League Elite with a 2-0 victory over host Melbourne City on Tuesday.

Goals from Marcus Junior and Yotaro Nakajima sealed the points for Michael Skibbe's J. League side against a lackluster Melbourne City, which was playing in its first game of the new season and presented little threat to the visitors.

Marcus Junior put his team in front from the penalty spot in the 52nd minute after being brought down by City goalkeeper Patrick Beach and Nakajima confirmed the win 10 minutes from time with a header from Shuto Nakano's cross.
