The Japanese Derby, or Tokyo Yushun, will be held at Tokyo Racecourse in Fuchu on May 29, and there’s every chance there will be a full field of 18 again as this year’s top 3-year-old colts do battle for the second leg of the Japanese Triple Crown.

The derby is one of the greatest horse races in Japan, if not the world, and despite the small number of spectators seen amid the pandemic over the past two years, this year is expected to see more fans able to witness the race live at the track.

Japan Racing Association President and CEO Masayuki Goto knows just how important the derby is for everyone involved in racing in Japan.
