Weeks ago, the Kyoto Hannaryz set a team record for regular-season triumphs with win No. 35.

Since then, they've just kept on winning. In fact, they've had one losing streak this season — two games.

Kyoto won its 40th game on Sunday, handing the visiting Shimane Susanoo Magic an 87-70 defeat in Maizuru, Kyoto Prefecture.

The Western Conference-leading Hannaryz (40-8) have appeared in three straight Final Fours under fourth-year bench boss, but fallen twice to the Ryukyu Golden Kings and once to the Rizing Fukuoka in the West final.

Indeed, the sixth-year franchise remains hungry to advance to the title game for the first time in franchise history.

In a post-game interview, power forward Reggie Warren admitted the team's 40th win is a far cry from it's "ultimate goal."

"Yeah, it's definitely not the ultimate goal, but it is an accomplishment," Warren said after a 13-point, five-rebound, five-assist, three-steal effort. "Our first goal is to secure the No. 1 spot and have home court for the playoffs, so we are on the right track to accomplish that."

In a crowded 10-team conference, the idle Ryukyu Golden Kings (39-9) and Hamamatsu Higashimikawa Phoenix (38-10), who also had a bye week, trail by one and two games, respectively.

"With four games left we just have to keep taking it game by game and get better with every game," added Warren, whose team is 21-3 at home.

"I also heard we have a chance to break the league record for wins, too, so hopefully we can take care of business and get the job done. But our main focus and ultimate goal is the championship."

Ryukyu went 43-9 last season — the league record that Warren spoke about — and captured its third championship.

The Hannaryz, meanwhile, have increased their victory total from 29 to 34 to 40 over the past three seasons.

Ryan Forehan-Kelly, a University of California alum, paced Kyoto with 24 points on 9-for-11 shooting and Kevin Kotzur had 21 points and nine rebounds. Sharpshooter David Palmer added 12 points, with Shingo Utsumi contributing nine.

Six Hannaryz players had two or more assists as the offense clicked. The Hannaryz finished with 23 helpers and 10 turnovers.

Shimane trailed 20-8 after one quarter.

Koji Nagata led the Broncos with 10 points.

"They gave a great effort in both games, just short-handed at the moment and couldn't find a rhythm," Randall said of Saitama. "As for us, we are trying to make sure we play hard and compete as a team no matter the opponent."
