Japan World Cup striker Keiji Tamada will be sidelined for two to three weeks with a sprained left ankle, Nagoya Grampus Eight said Monday.

Tamada sustained the injury in the J. League first-division club's practice match Saturday. He fired Japan into a shock lead in his first World Cup start before Brazil cruised to a 4-1 victory in Dortmund on June 22.

Tamada has yet to be named for the national team under new coach Ivica Osim ahead of Wednesday's friendly against Trinidad and Tobago. (Kyodo News)
