Asami Tanno and Miho Sugimori claimed their second straight titles with record-breaking runs while high school runner Yuzo Kanemaru won the men's 400 meters at the national track and field championships Sunday.

Tanno broke her own national record by 0.95 to win the women's 400 meters in 51.93 seconds shortly before Sugimori bettered her mark by 0.01 to successfully defend her 800-meter crown in 2:00.45 at National Stadium.

Kanemaru outclassed the field with a time of 45.86 to become the first high school student to win the 400 meters in eight years.

In other action on the final day of the four-day championships, which double as qualifiers for the world championships to be held in Helsinki in August, Kumiko Ikeda prevailed in the women's long jump to complete a double coupled with her 100-meter hurdlers crown.
