Mizuki Noguchi, winner of the silver medal at the World Athletics Championships in Paris last summer, set a national record Sunday in winning the women’s 30-km race at the Ome Marathon.
The 26-year-old Noguchi, the only Japanese woman to have secured a marathon berth in the Athens Olympics so far, clocked 1 hour, 39 minutes, 9 seconds to eclipse the previous record of 1:41.57 set in the same race by Naoko Takahashi in 2001.
