HONG KONG -- Japanese hopefuls in the Hong Kong International Races failed to pick up a win in either the Mile or the Cup on Sunday at Sha Tin Racecourse.
In the Mile, won by Hong Kong's Lucky Owners, Japan's three entries were saved some face by race favorite Lohengrin, who gave it his all to manage a third.
Admire Max followed him home with Telegnosis crossing the line in seventh place.
In the Cup, dominated unequivocally by Italy's Falbrav, Eishin Preston ended his racing career with a lackluster seventh-place showing.
Magnaten tripped coming out of the gate, was able to near the front but never extended and faded to finish in next-to-last place, over 16 lengths behind the winner.
