Japan’s Yoshie Onda and Fumie Suguri departed Friday for next week’s Figure Skating World Championships in Washington despite the war on Iraq putting the United States on heightened terror alert.
“It’s scary when you see what’s happening (in Iraq) on the television,” said Onda. “But there is no way I’m going to let the war stop me from competing,” added Onda, who missed the Aomori Winter Asian Games as well as last week’s Grand Prix final in St. Petersburg, Russia through injury.
