The Dream Bowl 2002 Matchplay tenpin bowling tournament to be held at the Shin-Yokohama Prince Bowling Center from Aug. 30-Sept. 2, will kick off the United States affiliated professional bowling league for the first time.

The tournament will feature 40 of America's top bowlers, 48 Japanese professionals and 18 South Korean bowlers, competing for a share of the 26 million yen prize money and a top prize of 5.2 million yen.

"The Dream Bowl 2002 Matchplay followed by the Japan Cup (Sept. 5-8) will start our 2002-2003 season and all points and prize money accumulated will count toward the final standings and determine the season's champion," explained Professional Bowling Association vice president Chip Zielke.

"Holding the Dream Bowl in Japan is part of our plans to expand the sport globally with the ultimate goal of establishing a world tour. This is a big task and we are grateful to have partners such as IMG Tokyo to assist us in achieving these goals."
