Takanori Suzuki singled home a run and drove in another with a sacrifice fly Wednesday as the Yokohama BayStars snapped a 13-game losing streak with a 3-1 victory over the Hiroshima Carp.

The BayStars' Boi Rodriguez hit a solo homer in the sixth inning at Yokohama Stadium for an insurance run as the Central League cellar-dwellers picked up their first win in May and only their eighth win of the season.

Yokohama reliever Ryuichi Kawahara picked up his first win in two years with 1 1/3 innings of work while Takashi Saito earned his fifth save of the season, despite giving up two hits and a pair of walks in the final two innings.

At Koshien Stadium, Hideki Matsui hit a two-run homer in the seventh inning and Yomiuri held on for its fourth win in a row over slumping Hanshin.

The victory gave Yomiuri a three-game lead in the Central League standings over Hanshin, which lost its fourth in a row and its fourth straight to the Giants.

At the Nagoya Dome, Roberto Petagine hit his 12th homer of the season in the 10th inning and Yakult snapped Chunichi's eight-game winning streak with a victory over the Dragons.

At Yonago Municipal Stadium in Tottori Prefecture, Kazuo Matsui led off with a homer in the first inning and connected for a two-run single in the fourth and Seibu ran its winning streak to four with a triumph over Orix.

At the Tokyo Dome, Makoto Kaneko singled home the winning run in the bottom of the ninth inning to give Nippon Ham a victory over Lotte while halting the Fighters losing streak at three.
