Chunichi hurler Makoto Kito combined with four relievers on an eight-hit shutout as the Dragons silenced the Central League-leading Hanshin Tigers 5-0 at Koshien Stadium on Wednesday.

Kito, making his first start in two years, struck out seven and allowed seven hits. He walked none to pick up his first win in eight appearances this year as Chunichi snapped its losing skid at five.

Hirokazu Ibata went 3-for-4 and Kazuyoshi Tatsunami had three hits and three RBIs for the Dragons.

Swallows 7, BayStars 1
Yakult lefty Shugo Fujii scattered four hits over the distance and cruised to his third win as the Swallows beat Yokohama at Sagamihara Stadium in Kanagawa.

Fujii gave up one run on a home run by BayStars right fielder Boi Rodriguez. He whiffed eight and walked none.

Atsunori Inaba, Akinori Iwamura and Alex Ramirez had three RBIs each for the Swallows.

Giants 12, Carp 6
Takayuki Shimizu had three hits and four RBIs and Yoshinobu Takahashi had three hits — including a two-run homer — and drove in three runs as Yomiuri racked up 15 hits en route to a three-game sweep of Hiroshima at the Tokyo Dome.

John Wasdin was tagged for five runs on 10 hits, including three home runs, over six innings but got enough backup from his teammates to pick up his first win of the year in five outings.

Hiroshima second baseman Eddy Diaz connected for two solo blasts, his eighth and ninth homers of the year. The two teams combined for six roundtrippers.

BlueWave 5, Fighters 4
Orix center fielder Yoshitomo Tani nailed a “sayonara” solo homer in the bottom of the ninth inning off Nippon Ham reliever Junichiro Muto (0-1) to lift the BlueWave over the Fighters at Green Stadium Kobe.

With Orix up 4-3 in the seventh, Seigo Fujishima singled home a run to tie the game for the Fighters.

In the ninth, Tani — who went 4-for-5 — drilled his first homer of the year to lead off the inning, putting a halt to Orix’s losing skid at five. Marines 3, Hawks 2

Lotte rookie Takashi Kita drove home the game-winning run in the bottom of the ninth with his first career hit as the Marines ended their losing streak at four games with a win over Pacific League-leading Daiei at Chiba Marine Stadium.

Slugger Hiroki Kokubo gave Daiei a 2-1 lead with a solo homer — his ninth dinger of the year — in the seventh, but Lotte tied the game in the eighth with Derrick May’s RBI single.

PL fines Rhodes

The Pacific League on Wednesday fined Kintetsu Buffaloes outfielder Tuffy Rhodes 200,000 yen for abusing an umpire in Tuesday’s game.

Rhodes was ejected from the game at the Seibu Dome for abusing home-plate umpire Ryuzo Yamamoto in the fifth inning after arguing a call. The league also reprimanded Kintetsu manager Masataka Nashida.

Rhodes, who hit 55 homers in 2001 to tie Sadaharu Oh’s single-season Japanese home run record, leads the league with 12 homers this season.

In other news, the Daiei Hawks have signed 17-year-old Brazilian right-hander Anderson Gomes Dos Santos.
