Igawa fanned nine batters and walked one as Hanshin became the first team in either league to notch its 10th win of the year.

George Arias scored the only run of the game with a solo home run in the second inning off BayStars hurler Kuniyuki Taniguchi (0-1).

Taniguchi allowed one run on five hits while striking out eight over 5 1/3 innings in a losing effort.

Yokohama fell to its 10th loss of the season.

Carp 7, Swallows 5

Eddy Diaz and Tomonori Maeda each homered and drove home two runs a piece to help Hiroshima down Yakult at Hiroshima Stadium.

Shinji Sasaoka pitched five innings, allowing five runs — all in the fifth inning — on seven hits for the win.

Yakult slugger Roberto Petagine slammed a three-run homer in the fifth for his fourth dinger of the year.


Lions 2, Hawks 1

Daisuke Matsuzaka tossed four-hit ball over eight innings and picked up his third win as Seibu edged Daiei at the Seibu Dome.

Matsuzaka fanned nine batters and walked two, and closer Kiyoshi Toyoda worked the ninth for his third save.

Trailing Seibu 1-0 in the fifth, Kenji Jojima connected for a solo homer to tie the game, but in the sixth, Kazuhiro Wada nailed a solo blast off Daiei starter Keizaburo Tanoue to put the Lions ahead for good.

Tanoue (1-1) went the distance, giving up two runs and five hits.

BlueWave 4, Marines 1

Orix designated hitter Fernando Seguignol went 2-for-3 and hit a solo home run in the sixth inning as Orix beat Lotte at Green Stadium Kobe, sending the winless Marines to their 10th straight loss.

Ed Yarnall held Lotte scoreless for seven innings despite giving up seven hits and picked up his first win.

Lotte hurler Nathan Minchey suffered his third loss in as many outings.

Fighters 6, Buffaloes 2

Sherman Obando went 2-for-3 to lift Nippon Ham over Kintetsu at the Osaka Dome.

Obando singled home a run in the first, and hit a solo homer in the third inning to give the Fighters a 2-0 lead.

Up 2-1 in the seventh, Nippon Ham added a run through a Tatsuya Ide solo homer before the Fighters scored three more in the eighth inning — highlighted by a two-run blast by Makoto Kaneko.
