As the campaigning for the next American president reaches its climax, it resembles more a soap opera than a serious political occasion to elect the most powerful individual on the planet.

For Donald Trump, it seems that the only aim has been to further his media brand name because, win or lose, he is now known round the globe.

It should be easy for him to profit from this wasteful farce because his profile has grown exponentially. He can now spend the rest of his lurid life as the man who lost the White House but won the jackpot.

Perhaps the rest of the world mistook the real intention of this race for the top as a serious democratic event, when all along it has mirrored the torrid turnings of a bizarre hit TV series.

I'm sure it will sweep all the Golden Globes and Emmys on the planet, but it won't help the American electorate one iota.

Its defenders will say that it has followed due process, but all we're really left with is a series of bizarre plot twists and some of the corniest acting ever seen.

One thing for sure, it has secured the highest following and viewer rankings in history so I'm sure that at least Trump will be delighted whatever no matter how badly he loses, and eager to monetize his performances tax-free!
