Regarding the March 6 Kyodo brief "Tsunami 'Noah's Ark": It would be a great idea for the infrastructure ministry to make special lifeboats for evacuation during tsunami. But we could save many more lives if car companies would make a new car or adapt an existing model to float for many hours or even days.

Families would at least be able to get into their cars if there wasn't enough time to escape the area. Every family might be advised to have an emergency bag of water and food in the car in case it took some time for them to be found.

This idea would not cost so much and would not take up extra space, which is limited in Japan. The ministry should propose a new law obliging automakers to make floatable cars.
