Regarding the Nov. 7 editorial "Stoking Okinawan anger": I am an 86-year-old U.S. Marine Corps veteran who fought in the Pacific theater of operation during World War II.

That war ended in 1945, 67 years ago. What in the name of Almighty God is the United States still doing there?

Haven't we occupied Japan long enough? Must we have combat troops throughout the world? People throughout the world are tired of our warmongering. Former U.S. presidential candidate Ron Paul was right: We have no business in these foreign countries, and he, too, is a war veteran. He should know.

The opinions expressed in this letter to the editor are the writer's own and do not necessarily reflect the policies of The Japan Times.
