In response to the April 12 Kyodo brief "Noda to send Edano to Fukui," I wish to pose one question to industry minister Yukio Edano: What does he and Prime Minister Yoshihiko Noda mean when they confirm that reactors 3 and 4 of Kansai Electric Power Co.'s Oi nuclear power plant "basically" meet the government's new safety standards for restarting operations?
With regard to nuclear power technology, haven't we learned by now that expressions such as "for the most part" and "estimated" cannot be applied. The government's renewed interest in atomic- power generation shows that it's going back to exactly where it was before — again making the same mistakes, the same excuses.
Can we afford to do this when we are responsible for the lives and well-being of our future generations?
