When the next president of the Liberal Democratic Party is decided Saturday, one of the first orders of business will be to work out which policy issues the LDP-led coalition and the opposition parties can agree on once the autumn session of parliament begins.

That could mean some tough political compromises on the part of the LDP, which needs opposition votes to reach a majority.

For their part, the opposition parties will have to decide just how much they are willing to compromise with the LDP on their key policies in exchange for either entering the coalition or remaining in opposition but siding with the LDP on certain bills.
