Nintendo on Thursday unveiled its second official store, in the city of Osaka, ahead of its opening Friday, offering over 2,000 items of iconic game-themed merchandise on an 800-square-meter area in a major department store.

Run directly by the company, Nintendo Osaka is located on the 13th floor of Daimaru department store in the major commercial district of Umeda. It is the company's second official store after its Tokyo shop opened in 2019.

The company invited members of the media and customers selected by lottery to the store where visitors can play Super Mario, Splatoon and other games and purchase original goods not offered elsewhere.

"We want to increase communication with our customers" through the official shops, Nintendo President Shuntaro Furukawa said.

Kaori Sugimoto, a 35-year-old Osaka resident selected to visit the new store on the pre-opening day, said, "I'm so glad that they opened a store in Osaka. It's amazing they have so many colorful stuffed toys."

Capcom, another video game company, will also open an official outlet on the same floor of the Osaka department store on Friday.
