Tapping Bank of Japan Gov. Haruhiko Kuroda for another term early next year is an option because of the need for seamless policy continuity, an economic adviser to Prime Minister Shinzo Abe has said.

"Kuroda is doing a terrific job," Etsuro Honda, one of the architects of Abenomics, said in an interview Wednesday. "I just met him in Davos. Kuroda is lively. He uses English without a problem. He is very admirable. I don't think his age is a problem."

While Honda made it clear that the choice is up to Abe, he emphasized that the prime minister needs to pick someone who can carry on what Kuroda has done, given monetary policy's key role in the efforts to reflate the economy. Honda has said he helped choose the current BOJ leadership when Abe was undertaking regime change at the central bank in 2013.
