A pleasure boat with three men aboard capsized in the Sea of Japan off Niigata Prefecture on Sunday, leaving one dead and another missing, the Japan Coast Guard said.

In the accident off Itoigawa, Kazunobu Karasawa, 66, was confirmed dead after being found unconscious, according to the Ninth Regional Coast Guard Headquarters.

The sole survivor so far, Kazushi Yoneyama, 42, swam ashore and made an emergency call.

Karasawa and Yoneyama had been fishing on an offshore breakwater since Saturday evening. The three men were on their way back when the boat capsized. Winds of up to 36 kph were blowing at the time of the accident, the coast guard said.

The Japan Coast Guard is searching for the missing man, who was steering the boat.
